    Editor’s Note:
This article chronicles the ongoing efforts by Canadian 9/11 Truth activists to persuade their members of Parliament to call for a new 9/11 investigation. If you’d like to take part in this crucial campaign, send an email to Mike Bondi and tell him you want to help!

Vancouver East MP Libby Davies became the first federal representative to call for a new 9/11 inquiry in the Canadian Parliament

Canadian AE911Truth supporters are making the best of a unique opportunity that their government provides for obtaining a real 9/11 investigation. The petition process grants all Canadians the right to petition Parliament – but as we discovered, this can be an uphill battle.

The general principle is that any Canadian may petition Parliament directly in a matter that cannot be resolved any other way. The first step is to create the petition and have it certified to be “in order” by the Clerk of Petitions. Once this is done, at least 25 signatures must be gathered.

Parliamentary rules do not allow unelected citizens to be on the floor of Parliament. A Member of Parliament (MP) needs to agree to physically deliver a particular petition to the clerk’s desk inside Parliament.

Often, petitions contain requests or contents that are not supported by any MP or party. It is generally accepted that the act of submitting a petition does not imply that an MP actually endorses it but is simply a messenger for the petitioners.

Even though Stockwell Day, former Minister of Public Safety, dismissed the calls for 9/11 justice, he did not dampen the resolve of AE911Truth supporters in Canada

Canadian activists’ first petition to Parliament about the 9/11 terrorist attacks was in 2008. This petition was signed by 500 citizens, and it eventually collected more than 5,000 additional signatures after its reading by the Honourable Libby Davies, MP for Vancouver East.

Stockwell Day, Canada’s former Minister of Public Safety, eventually responded officially to the petition. Essentially, he said that the government of Canada had accepted the official account given by the government of the United States regarding the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

“The Canadian Government has no cause to believe that the destruction of the World Trade Center was due to reasons other than those cited in the report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (known as the 9/11 Commission Report). While joining with all Canadians in mourning the death of the victims of these attacks, the Government of Canada is therefore not inclined to pursue an independent investigation.”

    - Stockwell Day’s Response to the 2008 Petition for a Canadian investigation into 9/11

Don Davies, MP for Vancouver Kingsway (NDP), backed out of his agreement to read a new 9/11 Truth petition into Parliament last year. Who will carry the torch in his place?

Since 2008, a large body of new forensic evidence has emerged, which gave rise to a new and much more specific petition requesting a Parliamentary review of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The new forensic evidence includes, but is not limited to:

Total destruction of buildings with pulverization of concrete floors – proceeding symmetrically through the path of what was the greatest resistance – at nearly free-fall acceleration

•Several tons of molten iron/steel found in the debris piles of all three high-rises and billions of previously molten iron microspheres in all of the WTC dust

Nano-thermite composite incendiaries discovered throughout the WTC dust

•DVDs entitled 9/11: Blueprint for Truth by AE911Truth.org (View on-line in English) and 9/11: Explosive Evidence – Experts Speak Out

•The peer-reviewed paper “Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe,” by Niels H. Harrit, et al. posted at the Bentham Open Chemical Physics Journal

The new petition was certified as “in order” by the Clerk of Petitions in 2010. Activists across Canada gathered more than 1400 additional signatures. Don Davies, MP for Vancouver Kingsway, agreed to submit the petition to Parliament after a request from constituent Michael Hey in the summer of 2011.

This new petition was candidly described by Don’s Parliamentary assistant as having the potential to cause a “sh-- storm” once it was submitted to Parliament by Don.

In the following legislative period, there was a race for leadership of the NDP (New Democratic Party). We, the petitioners, were told that Don wanted to wait until after the leadership race was decided before submitting the petition. The winner of the leadership race was Thomas Mulcaire, current leader of the official opposition for the Government of Canada.

Ottawa 9/11 activists Tyrone Drummond and David Long have been instrumental in educating fellow Canadians about the explosive 9/11 evidence

Unfortunately, after the NDP leadership race, Don Davies’ office advised that they were no longer interested in submitting the petition to Parliament.

The petition was then sent to Paul Dewar, MP and Foreign Affairs Critic for the NDP, in October of 2012. Many of Paul Dewar’s constituents have contacted his office requesting that he now submit the petition to Parliament. These requests are highlighted in a powerful new video.

Unfortunately, disappointment prevailed once more. When approached by three of his constituents, Paul Dewar’s response was that he did not want to submit the petition because “he did not agree with it.”

When asked what he found wrong with the petition, no further comment was offered; Dewar walked away from three of his constituents. One of these three constituents was Matt Yell, an engineer and a petition signer on the international AE911Truth petition calling on the US Congress to re-investigate 9/11.

Paul Dewar, MP for Ottawa Center (NDP), recently refused to submit the 9/11Truth petition to Parliament. Will more public encouragement lead to a change of heart?

In conclusion, the last several years have shown that thousands of Canadians have been quite willing to take the step to sign the petitions to the Government of Canada requesting a Parliamentary review of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This issue clearly has a lot of staying power and is still on the minds of many Canadians. Petitioners come from a wide variety of political, social, and economic backgrounds. Their common purpose is that they care about their nation and its policies regarding defence, security, and foreign policy.

The forensic evidence, combined with the will of a large and growing number of Canadians, makes this issue imperative. The message is clear – Canadians want a future defence, security, and foreign policy that accounts for the forensic evidence documented in their petition. They believe that our country’s policies must be based fundamentally on truth and that this affects the very heart of Canada.

Thus far, the response from Canada’s leading MPs on this issue has been weak and inconsistent, but with your support, we can turn the tide and motivate courageous MPs to take action and bring attention to this vital issue.
