200 Hundred Scientists Learn of Explosives in Buildings
An inaugural ethics conference sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) — the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technology — provided an exciting opportunity for AE911Truth to bring its message to the forefront of the scientific and engineering community last month.
IEEE promised that its 2014 IEEE International Symposium on Ethics in Engineering, Science, and Technology, held in Chicago on May 23-24, would offer "a rich scientific program of highest quality," feature speakers from throughout the world, and bring together "scientists, engineers, ethicists, and practitioners from different disciplines to discuss questions and concerns related to ethics in science, technology, and engineering."
Based on that billing, three 9/11 Truth Movement activists were inspired to respond to the call for papers with a case study addressing the topic "Ethics and Professional Responsibility in Science, Technology and Engineering." The resulting paper, Ethics and the Official Reports about the Destruction of the World Trade Center Twin Towers (WTC1 and WTC2) on 9/11: A Case Study, was co-authored by physicist John D. Wyndham, Ph.D. (a member of Scientists for 9/11Truth) and engineers Wayne H. Coste, PE, and Michael R. Smith (both members of AE911Truth and the IEEE).

Editor's Note: Frances Shure, M.A., L.P.C., has performed an in-depth analysis addressing a key issue of our time: "Why Do Good People Become Silent—or Worse—About 9/11?" The resulting essay, being presented here as a series, is a synthesis of both academic research and clinical observations.
In answering the question in the title of this essay, last month's segment, Part 7, examined groupthink, a maladaptive manifestation of conformity in which the desire for unity by the group members results in an incorrect or deviant decision-making outcome, an inflated sense of certainty in decisions by the "in-group," and often irrational and dehumanizing actions toward an "out-group."
We continue Ms. Shure's analysis in "Part 8: Brain Research, Part 1," which examines how beliefs—and our tendency to hold onto beliefs—are encoded in our DNA and our central nervous system.
The Human BrainStudies suggest that some people have a brain structure that makes it difficult for them to tolerate ambiguity, conflict, or new ideas that contradict their worldviews (usually those who identify as conservatives), while other people find it easier to accept new social, scientific, or religious ideas (usually those who identify as liberals).1
One of these studies reveals the discovery of a "liberal gene" that has been linked to a personality type that is driven to seek out new experiences.2 Could this partially account for the fact that 2.5% of people from the Diffusion of Innovation studies, explored in Part 2, are more venturesome with new ideas?

One Man's Personal 9/11 Journey
New Movie Trailer for Campaign Launch
Dave Hooper presents his new film, "The Anatomy of a Great Deception," at its first screening, held at the Motor City Casino in Detroit last March.A personal journey of discovery began just over three years ago for businessman and filmmaker David Hooper when he began to ask questions about what really happened on September 11, 2001. The result of his quest is a ground-breaking documentary, The Anatomy of a Great Deception.
During his search for answers, each question Hooper asked led to another, until eventually he deduced that the official story of how 9/11 transpired simply couldn't be true. Besides the emotional upheaval of that realization, Hooper faced the added pain of feeling isolated from family members and friends, who shared neither his conclusions nor his conviction that America had been betrayed. So, as a way of reaching out to loved ones, Hooper decided to make the film, in hopes that it would help them grasp the facts that had shattered his worldview.

AE911Truth Slandered over 9/11 Museum Outreach — Legal Action Considered
Counter the attack on AE and its 9/11 Museum brochures
Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth needs your energy and your outrage over how the organization and the cause of 9/11 Truth were treated by the mainstream media last month.
Specifically, we're asking you to write a letter to CNN to let the station know how you feel about the recent installment of The Lead with Jake Tapper. The five-minute report dealt with the AE911Truth initiative to distribute our alternative brochures at the site of the newly opened National September 11 Memorial and Museum, which we attended. You can send your letter to CNN via this link on its web site.
For background on the AE911Truth reaction to the CNN report, read the article currently posted on our website.
The Lead with Jake TapperTapper and Bazelon claimed that handing out museum brochures that mimicked the design of the "official" ones but contained an alternative perspective on 9/11 was an affront to the victims' families and that we were "spreading lies." They alleged that those who challenge the official story are motivated by anti-Semitism and a need to "make sense of the senseless." And, to no one's surprise, they ignored all the scientific evidence that AE and other experienced researchers have presented over the nearly 13 years since the event.

International Building Codes HandbookEditor's Note:
The short and simple answer: NO! A longer, more complex response: In 2002, Witold Rybczynski, emeritus professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, wrote that the initial investigation into 9/11 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) "...did not reveal any design deficiencies [in the WTC towers] or any 'specific structural features that would be regarded as substandard,' nor did it make any definite recommendations to safeguard tall buildings."
"Such recommendations will come," he added confidently, noting that NIST would be spending two years and $16 million to investigate the cause of the Twin Towers collapse, and that their findings would surely lead to new regulations resulting in safer structures.

Then ask yourself: "Did the laws of physics not apply on 9/11?"
“The truth is, before 9/11, the term global collapse didn’t even exist. Buildings survived fires, plane crashes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, botched demolitions and even nuclear explosions. Never, before or after 9/11, have we seen such catastrophic failures.”
This three-and-a-half-minute video — "9/11 In Perspective" — presents footage of eight buildings, ranging from nine to 62 floors, that have been either partially or fully engulfed in flames and yet remained standing despite massive internal destruction. Their major fires shown in these clips range from 1988 to 2008, and took place in U.S. cities (Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles) and abroad (Caracas, Madrid, Beijing, Delft).

Peer review sought for official WTC 7 report
Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, was host to the 2014 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering and Technology (fPET) for three days at the end of May. The mission of this international forum is to foster scholarship and reflection by teachers and practitioners of ethics, engineering, philosophy, technology, the social sciences, and education.
Nearly 50 papers and lectures were presented by authors from North America, Europe, and China. The wide-ranging topics covered engineering education, the social responsibilities of engineers, pedagogical techniques for ethics, and case studies on engineering ethics. Among the latter was a case study titled "Neglecting Peer Review: A Case Study of Engineering Ethics and the Official Reports about the Destruction of World Trade Center Building 7 (WTC 7) on 9/11," written by AE911Truth Presenter Team members Wayne Coste and Mikie Smith, and presented by Coste at the forum.

In addressing the question in the title of this essay, last month's segment, Part 6, explored the phenomenon of conformity, featuring the Solomon Asch experiments and Elizabeth Noelle-Neumann's study of German elections with her resulting theory of the "spiral of silence." We discussed the human proclivity to adhere to social norms in order to keep one's reputation intact, and we noted that this strong inclination can often trump evidence, openness, curiosity, and the human need for truth.
In Part 7, we continue Ms. Shure's analysis with an especially maladaptive form of conformity called "groupthink."
Psychologist Irving L. JanisConforming to folkways and mores is natural, and it can help a society function cohesively and smoothly. There is, however, a threshold at which conforming becomes maladaptive and produces poor decisions. Crossing this threshold leads us into the phenomenon of "groupthink," first studied by social psychologist Irving L. Janis.

Here's an exciting way that you can make a difference!
The 9/11 Truth Movement faces daunting obstacles in getting our message out to Jane and John Q. Public. We have a U.S. government seemingly working against us with its flawed investigations and denied requests for information. For whatever reason, the mainstream news media refuse to broadcast key evidence that refutes the official story while pouring ridicule and condemnation on anyone else who tries. Paid advertising that can reach thousands if not millions at a time remains an expensive luxury. What can we do to get around these obstacles? What should we be doing right now to give us our best shot at winning? In short, what are our advantages? Do we even have any?
OUR ADVANTAGE
For all the power that the government and the media have over us, one thing they can't do is prevent us from talking to people. More specifically, they can't stop thousands of us from talking one-on-one with thousands of new people each and every day. This, combined with the power of our evidence, is arguably our biggest advantage of all.
